Urban Environmental Challenge 10k

A real trail race in New York City!

Join the Van Cortlandt Track Club on Saturday April 6 at 10am at the Tortoise and Hare statue in historic Van Cortlandt Park for the annual Urban Environmental Challenge, a rugged, technical trail race in the heart of the Bronx.

While the COVID-19 vaccination is not required at this time, we ask that all participants  remain at home if they are not feeling well. Requirements and restrictions are subject to changes, as the situation evolves. However, the health and safety of all participants will remain our overriding consideration in any decisions. 

The 10k course is 2 loops on the technical trails of the park.

Race Details

  • Saturday, April 6, 2024, 10:00 a.m. start time
  • In the case of bad weather, the race goes on!
  • $35 pre-registration, $40 race day. (8:30-9:30 only)
  • Special discounts for runners aged 14 to 18, and for veterans.  
  • All registered participants will receive a race souvenir.
  • Awards:
    • Overall male and female 10k winners will receive a delicious carrot cake from our sponsor, the famous Lloyd’s Carrot Cake
    • Second and third place 10k finishers and age group winners will receive Lloyd’s Carrot Cake muffins.
  • A portion of your race fees go to support the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance for trail maintenance and youth programs.

Directions

  • Public transportation: Take the 1 Train to the end of the line at 242nd street and walk 500 yards.  Please check online for subway updates.  Runners can take Metro North Hudson Line to Marble Hill from 125th Street, or Grand Central Station, or anywhere along the line.  Check train times here. 
  • From Marble Hill, it is about a 1.5 mile jog to start of race, or take the 1 Train to the end of the line at 242nd Street Van Cortlandt.  
  • Drivers: Free Parking is available at the Van Cortlandt Golf Clubhouse and all along Broadway.
